A bananas foster recipe sounds fancy, but it’s really just a tasty caramel sauce for ice cream, and incredibly easy to make at home. And you definitely don’t need alcohol to make a great bananas foster! Skip the rum and banana liqueur and add nuts instead, just a handful of pecans will knock this dessert out of the park.

How to Make a Non-Alcoholic Banana Foster Dessert
- Use ripe, but firm bananas.
- Peel the bananas and then slice as desired, but reserve some of the banana to fold into the sauce.
- In a bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, softened butter, and reserved banana.
- Whisk ingredients until well combined and liquefied. If you like lots of sauce, add a little water into the mixture.
- Heat a skillet on medium low heat and pour in the sauce.
- Reduce heat to low and stir until the sauce is smooth.
- Stir in the banana slices and nuts, and simmer on low until the sauce reaches desired consistency. Check out current prices for pecans on Amazon.
- Serve warm over vanilla ice cream.
This recipe is incredibly flexible, and the ingredients adjust easily. It’s basically a caramel sauce for ice cream. Experiment with different sugars. Try honey and maple syrup to change up the flavors. Or use more blended bananas in the sauce and less sugar. You can simmer longer for a thicker sauce, or thin the sauce with water or cream.
Nothing in this dish isn’t delicious, so the odds of mucking it up are slim–just be sure not to have your skillet too hot and you’ll be fine!
